NONCONFERENCE

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT (3-1) at U.S. INTERNATIONAL (2-4), 7:30.

TV--None. Radio--KXLU-FM (88.9).

USIU was thumped by Oklahoma last week, 173-101, giving up an NCAA-record 97 points in one half. Last season, the Gulls were on the short end of a 181-150 game with Loyola, the highest-scoring shootout in collegiate history, and in their two meetings, 637 points were scored. With most of the same players back, USIU Coach Gary Zarecky has said that he doesn’t even mind the idea of losing another record-setting points parade--maybe 200 points by Loyola--because the prospect might fill San Diego’s Golden Hall. “I would like to be a part of (a 200-point) game . . . because if somebody scores 200 on us, I’m convinced we’ll score 180 or more and that’s a phenomenal thought,” Zarecky said. Loyola is averaging 116.8 points, with Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble combining for 56.5 a game. However, the other big gun, Jeff Fryer, remains sidelined with a broken hand. USIU has three players scoring in double figures, led by Kevin Bradshaw’s 26-point average.

* SCHEDULE: C15.
