Hermosa Leash Law to Cover Greenbelt

Share

Starting today in Hermosa Beach, the greenbelt where for years dogs were allowed to romp free will be covered by the city’s leash law, the Animal Control Department has announced.

The greenbelt, which had been a Santa Fe Railway right of way, is slated to become a city park Dec. 21. Residents voted last month to extend the leash law to cover the pathway, which runs the length of the city between Ardmore Avenue and Valley Drive.

At first, warnings will be issued to owners whose dogs are off-leash. However, after the warning period--the length of which has yet to be determined--offenders will be asked to pay a $25 fine plus court costs, which typically bring the penalty for being cited to about $60, said Janet Dreste of Animal Control Department.
