Key figures in the legal battle between Boston Red Sox third baseman Wade Boggs and his former mistress, Margo Adams, denied a published report that her lawsuit against him had been settled.

The Boston Globe, quoting “a source close to the proceedings,” reported that Boggs, 30, and Adams, 33, had agreed on a settlement after attorneys attended a mandatory settlement conference in Orange County Superior Court Friday.

But Superior Court Judge James P. Gray, who presided over that conference, and attorneys for Boggs and Adams said there has been no settlement.

The Boston Globe stood by its story.

Adams, a Santa Ana mortgage broker, filed suit against Boggs in June of 1988, seeking $500,000 for wages she said were lost during a 4 1/2-year affair that involved traveling with Boggs during Red Sox trips.
