A minor earthquake centered in the Irvine area shook parts of Orange County on Thursday night, but authorities said no damage or injuries were reported. The temblor struck at 9:12 p.m. and registered at a magnitude of 2.9, according to Caltech spokesman Robert Finn.

Steve Hughill, a business student at Orange Coast College, said the 30 students in his evening real estate class ran out of the room after feeling the jolt. “It shook the building really bad,” Hughill said. “I was scared for a minute. Everybody waited for an aftershock. There was nothing, so we thought it could not have been too bad.”
