Northridge Keeps It Close, but Can’t Beat Fullerton

As proud as Cal State Fullerton is of its undefeated record, the Titans have been nearly as delighted with their average margin of victory.

After four games, Fullerton was defeating its opponents by 24.5 points a game, and no team had played the Titans closer than 15 points.

Cal State Northridge couldn’t do any damage to Fullerton’s record Saturday night in Titan Gym. But they did trim the Titans’ pride--and that margin of victory--as Fullerton won, 81-70, in front of 2,600.

Fullerton led by as many as 14 in the first half--and then let Northridge cut the lead to four by halftime.

The Titans went ahead by 14 again in the second half--and let Northridge stay as close as eight points in the final two minutes.

The Titans might have had a much tougher time of it if not for the play of Mark Hill, who made eight three-point baskets, breaking his school record of seven, set last season. Hill finished the game with 29 points, including eight of 12 from three-point range.

Fullerton’s Cedric Ceballos, who has been the leading scorer in the Big West Conference, averaging 27.5 points a game, struggled in the first half and finished with 22 points, a season low.
