THE SIDELINES : Jets’ O’Brien to Have Surgery
The New York Jets said that quarterback Ken O’Brien will undergo an operation after the season on his damaged throwing arm.
An arthrogram Monday on the right shoulder of the six-year veteran revealed a need for exploratory arthroscopic surgery, the team announced Tuesday.
O’Brien, who has played this season with a variety of injuries--a broken toe, bruised ribs, two concussions, a sore left elbow--had his chronic rotator cuff tendinitis aggravated when he jammed his shoulder Dec. 3 at San Diego.
“I don’t think they found anything they didn’t expect,” O’Brien said of the arthrogram. “There isn’t a tear in the (shoulder) capsule. This is something that happens to guys who throw a lot. They’re just going to clean it out.”
