ORINDA, Calif. — Angel outfielder Claudell Washington was arrested Wednesday for investigation of spousal battery, police said.
Washington, 35, was arrested after his wife, Cynthia, called police, Orinda Police Sgt. Hank Davis said. Under California law, Washington was charged with a felony because his wife had visible injuries, Davis said, adding that bail was set at $2,500.
Washington’s wife suffered a “knot on the head, a cut lip and she might have a black eye,” according to Davis, who said she was taken to John Muir Memorial Hospital for treatment but was not admitted.
Washington was arrested at his home and offered no resistance, Davis said. He and his wife have been married since 1975.
