CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : PINOLE : Train Derails; No One Is Injured

Sixteen cars of a Los Angeles-bound Southern Pacific freight train were derailed near Pinole, about 15 miles north of Oakland, blocking two tracks and delaying Amtrak passengers booked on trains out of Oakland. No one was injured in the early-morning incident. The derailment was the second train accident in Northern California this week. Three people died Tuesday when the Santa Fe’s San Joaquin Flyer slammed into a semi-trailer truck near Stockton. The causes of both accidents were under investigation.
