Unsportsmanlike Writing Gets Literary Critique

It is kind of sad to see an insect caught in a web, especially if the insect is a web-spinner himself.

In his Dec. 19 column, Jim Murray decries the score run-up and subsequent boasting of the Bengals and their coach, Sam Wyche. Of Wyche’s actions, Murray says, “This goes far beyond the norms.”

Whose norms? Surely not those of Murray. Murray’s ability, some say skill , to verbally pile on has become his trademark. I know this to be true because I have seen Midwesterners destroy copies of The Times after reading a typical Murray diatribe following some Pac-10 victory in the Rose Bowl.
