The University of Louisville completed its report to the NCAA on a basketball recruiting violation and Bill Olsen, athletic director, says the school should not receive serious penalties for the infraction.

“We’re very confident, and we feel positive about the outcome,” Olsen said. “Our investigation clearly indicates an inadvertent contact. That’s a violation, but we feel it was technical and didn’t have any bearing on Dwayne (Morton’s) decision to attend the U of L.”

On Nov. 9, Coach Denny Crum said he had spoken with the mother and the high school coach of Morton in his office, then had dinner with them. He acknowledged that both meetings occurred during a period when such contact is prohibited. But Crum said he had no idea a rule was being violated.

The 6-foot-7 Morton signed a national letter of intent with Louisville Nov. 8, the first day of the early signing period for high school seniors.

Morton, his mother, Charlotte Morton, and Louisville Central High School Coach Ralph Johnson all said the player had made up his mind to sign with Louisville before the meeting.

Olsen said a copy of the 15-page report was shown to Crum, who is hospitalized with a respiratory ailment, and the coach was satisfied.
