ROUNDUP : CLU Women Post Fifth Win in a Row

Dani Elton made eight of nine field-goal attempts to lead the Cal Lutheran women’s basketball team to its best shooting effort of the year in a 69-59 win over Claremont in a nonconference game at Cal Lutheran on Tuesday night.

Elton finished with a game-high 19 points for Cal Lutheran (8-2), which has won five in a row.

Heidi Griffith made six of nine from the field for Cal Lutheran, which made 28 of 47 (59%) overall.

Cal State Northridge 78, Angelo State 63--Joan Weinert scored a career-high 22 points to lead Northridge in a nonconference game at home. Denna Mulverhill added 14 points for CSUN (3-11).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

CS Stanislaus 96, The Master’s 91--Brian Roscoe (28 points) and Shawn Graham (20) combined for 48 points to lead Stanislaus (8-5) to a nonconference win in Turlock, Calif. Stuart Epperson scored 18 points to lead five Master’s (9-7) players in double figures.

Fontbonne (Mo.) 77, Occidental 72--Senior center Chris Anderson scored a game-high 24 points for the Tigers in a nonconference loss at Occidental.

Jeff Muir added 14 points for Occidental (4-7).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Village Christian 45, L.A. Baptist 44 (OT)--Rod Andersen’s eight-foot baseline jump shot with three seconds left in overtime won the game for Village Christian in an Alpha League opener at home.

John Brown scored a game-high 21 points and added 12 rebounds for Village Christian (5-6, 1-0).

San Fernando 64, Van Nuys 47--Marco Renteria scored a game-high 24 points and Russell Baldwin added 20 for visiting San Fernando (7-3).

Renteria scored 11 points in the second quarter, including three three-point baskets. Baldwin scored nine third-quarter points.

Canyon 86, Sylmar 51--David Wiggins, a 6-foot-10 center, had career highs in points (18) and rebounds (14) as Canyon won an intersectional game at home.

Harvard 66, Brentwood 58--Rick Osterloh scored a game-high 15 points and teammate Matt Clark added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Harvard (11-2) at Brentwood.

Chaminade 49, St. Francis 45--Mark Wiltshire scored 12 points and made three of four free throws in the final minute to lead Chaminade (6-6) at home.

Calabasas 68, Faith Baptist 51-- Jim Friedlander scored a game-high 24 points and had 10 assists to lead Calabasas.

Mitch Chernow scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Dan Feldman added 12 points for Calabasas (6-6).

Oak Park 47, Santa Paula 43-- Josh Atkinson scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Oak Park. Ben Feick added 11 points for Oak Park (6-6).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Bell-Jeff 49, Burbank 32--Julie Cusumano scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and had five assists as Bell-Jeff turned a 21-12 third-quarter advantage into a victory at Burbank.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Kennedy 2, Cerritos 0--Angie Lacarte and Lori VanHerk each scored goals to lead Kennedy (6-3) in an intersectional match at Cerritos.

Notre Dame 5, Calabasas 0--Karen Ljubetic and Shannon Tuttle scored two goals each for Notre Dame (6-6) in a match at Notre Dame.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Simi Valley 3 Westlake 1--Brian Weaver scored twice for the Pioneers (15-0, 1-0) as they rolled in a Marmonte League opener.

Hart 8, Alhambra 1--Hart scored four unanswered goals in the first half to beat visiting Alhambra.
