LOCAL : Santa Ana Man Arrested After Empty Gas Tank Ends Chase

A Santa Ana man was booked early this morning on suspicion of drunk driving and evading arrest after he allegedly led police on a chase into San Diego that ended when the suspect’s car ran out of gas.

Mark Allen Tracy, 30, was taken to Orange County Jail after being arrested by Santa Ana police.

The chase began at 6:35 p.m. when police attempted to pull over the suspect’s car, which was traveling down 17th Street in Santa Ana at 70 m.p.h., according to Lt. Greg Cooper.

Police followed the man onto the southbound Santa Ana Freeway, where the chase continued into San Clemente. There, the suspect left the freeway and drove along Pacific Coast Highway before reentering southbound Interstate 5 a few miles down the road, Cooper said.

Two Santa Ana police cruisers as well as units from the California Highway Patrol followed the man until his car ran out of gas in the city of San Diego, where police arrested him.
