Kansas is No. 1 in the Associated Press college basketball poll for the first time since Wilt Chamberlain was an undergraduate.
The Jayhawks, 15-0, took over the top spot after Syracuse, which had been No. 1 for the first six regular-season polls, lost at home to Villanova over the weekend. Syracuse, 10-1, dropped to No. 6.
The last time Kansas was No. 1 was for a five-week span in the 1956-67 season when Chamberlain was a sophomore and the Jayhawks lost to North Carolina in the NCAA championship game in triple overtime.
Kansas received 45 first-place votes from the nationwide panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
Georgetown (11-0) moved into second place from third, followed by Michigan (10-1); Oklahoma (10-0) and Missouri (13-1).
