A man suspected of robbing a Home Federal Savings & Loan office in El Cajon shortly after 3 p.m. Friday was arrested minutes later at a nearby shopping center, police said.

Two El Cajon undercover detectives arrested Joe Curtis McAllister, 36, an El Cajon security guard, just minutes after the robbery at 103 Fletcher Parkway. McAllister, who was in a store at the nearby Parkway Plaza shopping center, did not resist, police said. McAllister had more than $1,000 in cash when he was arrested.

A man entered the Home Federal office and presented a demand note to a teller, who turned over an undetermined amount of cash. Several witnesses saw the man leave the thrift office and walk toward Parkway Plaza.

McAllister was unarmed at the time of his arrest. It was uncertain Friday night whether a weapon was used during the robbery. McAllister and the cash were turned over to the FBI.
