COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Keefe Helps Stanford Rout Washington State, 69-49

Center Adam Keefe scored 30 points and had 15 rebounds for Stanford as the Cardinal defeated Washington State, 69-49, in a Pacific 10 Conference game Sunday at Pullman, Wash.

Keefe scored 10 points in a four-minute stretch in the second half as the Cardinal (10-3, 2-2) scored 13 straight points to take a 47-32 lead.

The Cougars (7-9, 1-5) got no closer than eight points the rest of the way as they lost their fifth straight.

“This was a win we really needed,” Stanford Coach Mike Montgomery said. “I thought we defended fairly well.

“We got a hand into their shooters and they had to make difficult shots. I thought we also got good performances off the bench, particularly from DeShawn Wingate. He really gave us a big lift.”

Wingate added 16 points and 11 rebounds for Stanford. Darryl Woods scored 17 points for Washington State.

Stanford outrebounded Washington State, 51-36, to set a Friel Court record for rebounds by one team in a Pac-10 game. The old mark was 50 set by Washington in 1975.

The Cougars were without starting guard Bennie Seltzer, who was at his home in Alabama because of a death in the family.

“Obviously this hurts us to a point and the way we played today, Benny would’ve made a difference,” Coach Kelvin Sampson said.

“I don’t think our kids came ready to play.”

No. 11 Louisville 73, Florida State 66--Jerome Harmon and Tony Kimbro sparked a late rally and the Cardinals scored the game’s last eight points to win the Metro Conference game at Tallahassee, Fla.

The Cardinals (12-2, 2-1) took the lead for good at 67-66 with 2:36 to go on Kimbro’s short turnaround jumper. The Seminoles (11-6, 2-2) went the last 5:12 without a basket.
