Bus Driver Held in Drunk Driving
A school bus driver scheduled to pick up 57 children at an Encino elementary school was arrested Tuesday after a motorist noticed him driving erratically and officers determined he was drunk, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Harold Holmes, 40, of Los Angeles was being held on suspicion of child endangerment, Sgt. Woody Baca said.
A motorist noticed the Laidlaw bus weaving on the Hollywood Freeway and followed it to Lanai Road Elementary School, where he notified school officials, who called police, authorities said.
Police said no children were on the bus.
Holmes was arrested at 2:20 p.m. when he insisted on trying to drive the children home, Baca said. A Breathalyzer test established a blood-alcohol level above 0.08%, the legal definition of intoxication, he said.
The children were driven home by another driver, school Principal Ronald J. Ferrier said.
