Sea World on Friday announced plans to open a $2.5-million exhibit this spring that will include a petting pool with up to 200 bat rays and an underwater cavern teeming with California moray eels.

At the Bat Ray Feeding Shallows, visitors will be able to touch and feed the graceful animals, which average 3 feet in length and are native to Southern California, Sea World officials said. In the 28,000 gallon Moray Eel Cavern, which will feature full underwater viewing, animal keepers will feed the menacing-looking eels by hand.

The exhibit was designed to replicate the eels’ rocky home, complete with hundreds of caverns and tunnels.
