Girl, 2, Dies After Car Pins Her Against Building
A 2-year-old girl was fatally injured this week when she and her mother were pinned against a supermarket building by a motorist who said he accidentally hit his accelerator instead of the brake, Long Beach police said.
Crystal Ybarra died Wednesday on arrival at St. Mary Medical Center. Her mother, Lois Ybarra, 20, of Long Beach, was treated at the hospital for ankle injuries and released after the crash at Anaheim Street and Walnut Avenue. Police Lt. Mike Hill said the driver, Kheng Soth, 28, of Long Beach, was pulling into a parking lot space when he struck the mother and child. Hill said Soth was not cited pending further investigation.
