Many golfers go their entire lives without recording a hole-in-one, but not Tong A. Park of Palos Verdes. In only his third year of golf, Tong hit an eight iron into the cup on Wilson’s par three, 150-yard 15th hole. Another South Bay golfer, Don Watson of Lawndale, said he had been trying to do what Tong did for 45 years. He finally succeeded. He hit a three wood 205 yards on Harbor Park’s sixth hole.

The city of Carson will play host to a tournament at Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes Feb. 4. The event is open to golfers of all handicaps. It costs $25 to enter. Today is the final day to enter. Call 830-0212.

The 12th Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday 10-K Run and 5-K Walk take place this weekend. The running event begins at 8 a.m. Walkers start 15 minutes later. Late enrollment is slated for 6:30 a.m. at the starting line at Harbor Drive near International Boardwalk.

Claudia Martinez of Carson will compete in the U.S. Junior Nationals swim meet this year after qualifying in a recent youth swim meet at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach. Teammate Ryan Jones, 12, of San Pedro has qualified to swim for the Southern California YMCA All-Star Team later this year against a Canadian all-star team. Both swim for the San Pedro Peninsula YMCA. Martinez will swim five events in the nationals: the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle and 200 and 400 individual medleys. Jones qualified for the team by finishing second in Long Beach in the 100-yard breast stroke and 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard individual medley. In other action at the Long Beach meet, Jones and teammates Mat Mikelson (Redondo Beach), Patrick Ignacio (Carson) and Vince Visco (Palos Verdes) swam the nation’s 16th-best age-group time in the 400-yard medley relay. Martinez, Mikelson, Visco, Ignacio and his brother, Phillip, Roy Elliott (Manhattan Beach), April Simmons (Los Angeles), Alisa Scudamore (Palos Verdes Estates), Chris McAllister, Mayuko Abe and Sarah McFarland (Rancho Palos Verdes), Jess Witney (San Pedro) and James Park (Rolling Hills) were named to the Olympic section all-star team.

The fourth annual Cal State Long Beach Strength and Conditioning Clinic will be held Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. It features guest speakers. The cost is $30 for professionals and $15 for students. Call 985-8526.

The women’s basketball team from Loyola-Marymount (9-9) plays host to a pair of West Coast Conference opponents this weekend. Tonight the Lady Lions (2-2 in the WCC) play Portland and Saturday Loyola will face Gonzaga. Both begin at 7:30 p.m. in Gersten Pavilion.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-12, 1-3) plays host to Cal State Bakersfield tonight at 7:30 and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Saturday night at 8:05 in California Collegiate Athletic Assn. basketball contests. The Lady Toros (9-9, 1-3) play San Luis Obispo at 5:45 Saturday.
