SAN DIEGO SPORTS ET CETERA : Evans’ 31 Not Enough for SDSU

Julie Evans scored 31 points, more than half of San Diego State’s total, but it was not enough as host UC Santa Barbara took a 65-57 Big West victory over the Aztecs (3-16, 2-8).

Evans was the only Aztec in double figures. UCSB was led by Barbara Beainy with 23 points, and Coryna Truitt added 14.

SIGNINGS

Louis Zumstein, an offensive tackle from Chula Vista High, has made an oral commitment to attend San Diego State University.

Zumstein, 6-feet-4, 265 pounds, was a Times second-team all-county pick.

BASEBALL

San Diego State will hold its annual alumni baseball day Sunday at Smith Field. An old-timers game, with players from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s participating, will begin at 10 a.m. That will be followed by a game between recent alumni and the varsity at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Jack McKeon, Padres vice-president and manager, will speak at the first annual Torero Baseball Benefit Reception next Friday at USD. Cost is $50, and there is a Monday deadline to RSVP. Call 260-4614 for information.

HIGH SCHOOL
