Citizens Capture Driver After Pedestrian Is Killed

A 27-year old Mexican immigrant was struck and killed by “an obviously drunk driver” who was then chased down and captured by a large group of citizens Friday afternoon in an industrial area near downtown Los Angeles, police officers said.

It was the second time this week fast action by citizens led to the capture of an alleged hit and run driver.

Los Angeles Police Sgt. Larry Swanson said that the suspect, Jorge Urrutia, came “shooting off” the Santa Monica Freeway near 17th and Los Angeles streets and “plowed right into these two men and then continued on and hit two other cars. When the crowd tried to get him to stop, he just got out and started running.”
