A Simi Valley man won $1 million in the Big Spin lottery game after inviting 26 friends to Sacramento to watch him play, California Lottery officials said Sunday.

Richard Lockett, 33, was the biggest winner among 10 contestants who spun the lottery wheel Saturday for a chance at prizes of between $10,000 and $2 million.

Lockett, who owns a fiber optics manufacturing firm in Simi Valley, could not be reached for comment. But he told state lottery officials that he will celebrate by buying a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

“He brought 26 friends with him, but said he knew he wasn’t going to win,” Carolyn Walker, a California Lottery spokeswoman, said Sunday. “He was pretty shocked afterward. He kept saying, ‘Fortune is a strange thing.’ ”

Lockett, who bought the scratch-off ticket that gave him a chance at the Big Spin at a Simi Valley liquor store, will receive $40,000 a year for the next 20 years, Walker said.
