Bomb Threat Forces Jet to Delay Takeoff

Share

A telephoned bomb threat forced a Singapore Airlines 747 jet to abort its takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport Tuesday, but no bomb was found, authorities said.

The anonymous call was received about 1 p.m. as Singapore Airlines Flight 11 prepared to begin its taxi to take off for Tokyo and Singapore, said Bob Candiotti, an airline spokesman.

The plane was diverted to a remote area on the western edge of the airport where 253 passengers and 21 crew members were taken off and bused to a terminal.

No explosives were found during a search of the plane, and the airliner was cleared for takeoff at 4 p.m., Officer Ron Bremer said.

The Police Department’s Criminal Conspiracy Section was investigating the incident, Bremer said.
