BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Crescenta Valley Hands Pasadena Its First Loss in Pacific League Play

Bill Crockett scored with less than a minute left in the second overtime period Thursday night to give host Crescenta Valley High a 60-59 win over Pasadena in a Pacific League game. It was Pasadena’s first league loss.

Pasadena’s Raymond Maberry missed a 10-foot field-goal attempt in the waning seconds of the second overtime. Pasadena is 17-5 overall, 7-1 in league play. Crescenta Valley (14-7, 6-2) missed last-second shots at the end of regulation and the first overtime.

Lamar Breeding had 16 points and six assists, Paul Matijasevic had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Bruce Jacobsen added 10 points and 16 rebounds for Crescenta Valley.

In others boys’ games:

Hart 88, Burbank 49--Hart guard Micah Ohlman made six three-point baskets in the first half and finished with a school-record 42 points in a Foothill League victory at Burbank.

Ohlman scored 30 points to help Hart build a 46-19 first-half lead. Marty Downen, with 11 points, was the only other player to score in double figures for Hart (16-7, 5-3). Mali Moye and Renato Rivas added nine and eight points, respectively.

Sylmar 74, Birmingham 61--Sylmar outscored Birmingham, 28-19, in the fourth quarter to break open a tight East Valley League game at Sylmar.

Sylmar (10-11, 3-5) was led by Donovan Walker with 24 points and Keith Bright with 19. Kevin Horton scored 23 points for Birmingham (7-11, 4-4).

El Camino Real 48, Chatsworth 37--Chatsworth remained winless in the West Valley League after visiting El Camino Real built a 15-point halftime lead and cruised to the victory.

San Fernando 60, Canoga Park 40--The Tigers outscored visiting Canoga Park, 26-7, in the fourth quarter to come back from a 34-33 deficit after three quarters in a West Valley League game.

L.A. Lutheran 55, Viewpoint 42--Darren Brown had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Stephen Willweber added 15 points and 12 rebounds for L.A. Lutheran (11-6, 6-3) in a Heritage League game at Viewpoint.

Muir 107, Hoover 59--Despite a team-high 25 points by John Hillman, Hoover (4-16, 1-7) lost a Pacific League game at Muir.

GIRLS

North Hollywood 64, Reseda 44--North Hollywood’s Jacinda Sweet had a triple-double--scoring 15 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and handing out 11 assists--in a Mid-Valley League game at North Hollywood.

Hart 63, Burbank 44--Hart stretched its Foothill League lead to three games, clinching the league title. Hart center Sara Wilson scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Burroughs 55, Alhambra 49--Wendy Bruse scored a season-high 31 points and added 11 rebounds to lead host Burroughs (12-10, 2-6) in a Foothill League game. Bruse, a 6-foot senior, was 13 of 21 from the field.

Kennedy 57, Cleveland 50--Felicia Stanley had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Kennedy (8-0) in a West Valley League game at Cleveland (3-5).

Canoga Park 57, Taft 38--Soo Yoon had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Kelli McCaskill added 13 points and 13 rebounds for host Canoga Park (8-4, 4-0) in a North Valley League game.

El Camino Real 67, Chatsworth 15--With two starters out because of ankle injuries, Chatsworth was little match for visiting El Camino Real in a West Valley League game.

Granada Hills 37, San Fernando 33--Melissa Hansen scored with 54 seconds left to give host Granada Hills (5-7, 4-4) a 35-33 lead and Shelise Tillman added two free throws with three seconds left in the North Valley League game.

L. A. Baptist 58, Maranatha 45--Kristin Heerema and Karleen Cox each scored a game-high 17 points and Cox added 10 rebounds to pace the host Knights to their sixth consecutive win.

WOMEN

Azusa Pacific 63, The Master’s 29--Azusa Pacific jumped to a 33-13 halftime lead in a nonconference game, then played its reserves.
