ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Women Prevail in Overtime in Record Performance

Brenda Lee scored 26 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds Thursday to pace the Cal Lutheran women’s basketball team to a 75-70 overtime victory over visiting Christ College in an NAIA District 3 basketball game.

Chris Cox, Leslie Stevens, and Amy Chandler scored 12, 10 and nine points for the Regals (14-7, 7-4 in District 3), who tied a school record for overall wins and set a school record for district wins.

With four seconds to play and Christ College trailing, 65-62, Genevieve Graff hit a three-point shot to send the game into overtime. The Regals outscored Christ College, 10-5, in the overtime.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Pierce 5, L. A. City 1--Jim Wolf’s bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning extended Pierce’s 1-0 lead and broke open the nonconference game at L. A. City.

Wolf was one for four and Bill Chavez was two for four for Pierce (2-2).

Pierce’s Juan Soriano struck out two batters to escape a bases-loaded jam in the sixth. Louis Birdt pitched a scoreless ninth to record his first save.

Mission 7, Pasadena 1--Nino Romo, a right-handed freshman from Sylmar High, struck out five and scattered four hits in a nonconference game at Pasadena.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Montclair Prep 87, Marshall Fundamental 55--Jason Gerber of scored 12 of his 17 points in the first quarter as the host Mounties concluded an 11-1 Alpha league season with an easy win.

L.A. Lutheran 43, First Lutheran 39--Chris Williams scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter, including four unanswered points in the final minute, as host L. A. Lutheran finished Heritage League play in a third-place tie with Coast Christian.

Faith Baptist 79, Bel-Air Prep 52--Sophomore Alex Estrada scored 32 points and had 10 assists in a Delphic League game at Daniel Murphy.

Highland Hall 85, South Bay Lutheran 67--Sophomore center John Klejnot scored a career-high 32 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Highland Hall in the championship game of the Westside League postseason tournament. Greg Anastas added 21 points and 13 rebounds.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Thousand Oaks 69, Newbury Park 56--Michelle Palmisano tied school records with 42 points and 23 rebounds as the host Lancers (14-11, 7-5) finished Marmonte League play in a third-place tie with Camarillo.

Village Christian 51, Maranatha 46--Leeann Robinson made a pair of free throws with two seconds to play to seal the Alpha League victory at Village Christian.

L.A. Baptist 44, Western Christian 39--Karleen Cox had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals to pace the Knights in an Alpha League game at L.A. Baptist.

Kristin Heerema scored 15 and Melissa Cerone added nine for the Knights (13-4, 10-2), who tied Village Christian for the league title.

Alemany 67, Chaminade 48--Lara Bridi scored a career-high 13 points as host Alemany (18-6, 10-0) won a third consecutive San Fernando Valley League championship.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Agoura 3, Calabasas 0--The Chargers, ranked 10th in the Southern Section 4-A Division, wrapped up their second consecutive Frontier League championship at Agoura.

Hart 3, Burbank 0--Armando Garcia scored two first-half goals and assisted on another in the second half of the Foothill League match at Hart.

Burroughs 2, Alhambra 0--Jesus Munoz and Eddie Gavilan scored for the Indians (10-7-4, 7-5-4), and goalkeeper Mika Persson posted his seventh Foothill League shutout at Alhambra.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 2, Alemany 0--Katie Crespo and Odette Velasquez scored first-half goals to lift the Eagles and hand host Alemany its first San Fernando Valley League loss in the past two seasons.

Alemany (13-6-2, 7-1), ranked second in the 2-A Division, was unable to notch a goal against Kathy Regan, who posted her 13th shutout.

Royal 4, Camarillo 1--Staci Blough scored four goals before halftime to raise her season total to 19 goals as Royal (17-5-1, 6-3-1) breezed in the Marmonte League finale at Royal.

Notre Dame 2, Crossroads 0--Karen Ljubetic and Danielle Gervais scored for the host Knights (9-11-1, 2-6), and Simona Errico posted her ninth shutout in a San Fernando Valley League victory.
