COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton Pounds L.A. Valley for 13-4 Victory

Benny Rodriguez, Willie Speakman and Gary Mota each had two hits and three RBIs as Fullerton College defeated Los Angeles Valley, 13-4, Tuesday in a nonconference game at L.A. Valley.

Mota leads the team with 18 RBIs. Tom Wilson hit his third home run for Fullerton. Brian Behnke (1-0) pitched two innings for the victory.

In other nonconference games:

Rancho Santiago 10, MiraCosta 8--Sophomore Marty Neff hit two home runs and had five RBIs for visiting Rancho Santiago (7-0). John Rodriguez, Conrad Colby, Jeremy Sherman and Neff each had two hits for Rancho Santiago.

Golden West 10, Palomar 3--Todd Long (2-0) pitched his second complete game of the season, allowing one earned run with seven strikeouts for visiting Golden West (6-1). Gary Christopherson had three hits and three RBIs and Josh Bammer had three hits, including two doubles.

Cypress 11, Arizona State JV 7--Doug McConathy had three hits, Jason Bates had two hits and two RBIs and Chris Rodwick had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs for Cypress. Kenny Tolbert (3-0) pitched six innings for the victory.

In nonconference softball:

Orange Coast 2, Pasadena 1--Kristin Heizer (3-0) pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts for host OCC (3-0). Cathy Scanlan singled with one out in the third, moved to second on a walk, to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch to break a 1-1 tie in the third.

Kellie Newcombe and Robin Welch had back-to-back doubles in the first for OCC’s other run. Pasadena is 0-2.

Saddleback 7, Rio Hondo 3--Saddleback scored six runs in the first inning at home. Leanne Davis, Kim Greany and Tisa Herrera each had RBI singles in the inning, which also included three wild pitches and an error.

Kerry McDaniel (1-1) pitched five innings and allowed two runs for Saddleback (3-4). She also had three singles.

Fullerton 7, San Bernardino Valley 6 (10 innings)--Lorraine Garcia scored on an error in the 10th for visiting Fullerton (3-0) at San Bernardino Valley (0-1).
