LAGUNA BEACH : Toll Road Called Menace to Animals
The latest protest against development in Laguna Canyon on Wednesday morning attracted deer, skunks, wood rats and raccoons. And those were just the people.
The costumed protesters braved a blustery morning to line up on Laguna Canyon Road near the site where the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor is expected to slice through the hill. The demonstrators waved signs at passing motorists.
Donna Martin, a Laguna Niguel resident who believes wildlife will be endangered by the development in Laguna Canyon, dressed as a skunk and carried a sign reading: “I Think Toll Roads Stink.”
The $465-million San Joaquin toll road will run between the Costa Mesa Freeway and San Juan Capistrano, roughly parallel to the San Diego Freeway.
