Police Seek 2nd Suspect in S&L; Holdup
Federal agents and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies were still seeking one of two suspects Monday in the kidnaping of a savings and loan supervisor, who was held captive in her Palmdale home for 36 hours before deputies rescued her at a branch office during an unsuccessful robbery attempt last week.
Tyrone McCraw, 29, described as a transient from the Pomona area, remained at large Monday. The other suspect, 29-year-old Brian Keith Simms of Duarte, was scheduled for a hearing in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles today on a charge of armed bank robbery.
He was being held without bail.
The two suspects may have selected the Southern California Savings branch office in Newhall as a robbery target after doing manual labor there several months ago on a remodeling project, a detective said Monday.
Simms told investigators that he and McCraw had been employed by a contractor who did work at the branch, Sgt. T.J. Hageboeck said. Hageboeck said he could not provide more details because of the ongoing investigation.
Deputies responding to a silent alarm rescued Assistant Manager Denise Adkins and arrested Simms at the Southern California Savings branch office in Newhall early Friday. McCraw stole a car at gunpoint and fled. The two men allegedly invaded Adkins’ home Wednesday evening and held Adkins and her husband captive, then forced her to accompany them to the branch office.
