Charges Filed over Aerial Spraying in Pasadena
Helicopter pilot Jim Josephson and San Joaquin Helicopters Inc. face misdemeanor charges stemming from the aerial spraying of malathion over Pasadena last week.
Josephson, 49, lead pilot for the Feb. 22 spraying involving six helicopters from El Monte Airport, was charged Thursday with violating a new Pasadena ordinance that bans low-altitude formation flying at night. The Pasadena Board of Directors passed the ordinance Feb. 20 to stop Mediterranean fruit fly eradication efforts over their city.
The charges against Josephson and his Delano-based company were filed in Pasadena Municipal Court. The pilot, who must appear for arraignment March 22, faces a maximum fine of $500 and six months in jail. His company could be fined an additional $500.
