CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SOUTH LAKE TAHOE : Attacker Cuts Hair of Women, Flees

Police are baffled by a series of night-time attacks over the last five months on at least seven women by a man who cuts off the victims’ hair with a knife before fleeing. None of the victims were injured in the attacks, which occurred as they walked alone, but police say some were threatened and the attacker could become violent. Authorities also said there may be other victims who have been afraid to come forward, and investigators need all the information they can get to develop a psychological profile that could help in identifying the man. The most recent attack occurred Feb. 17.
