Mandela, Lennon Tributes Planned: Two major tribute concerts--one for Nelson Mandela and the other for John Lennon--are planned for the spring in England. “Nelson Mandela--An International Tribute--For a Free South Africa,” will include an appearance by Mandela and is scheduled for April 16 at London’s Wembley Stadium. It will be broadcast in more than 60 countries around the world. Performers scheduled to appear include the Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Neil Young and the Neville Brothers. . . . On May 5 in Lennon’s hometown of Liverpool, another concert spearheaded by Yoko Ono will include performers Terence Trent D’Arby, B. B. King, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Herbie Hancock, Lou Reed, Randy Travis, Lou Gramm and Roberta Flack. The concert, kicking off a series of events to honor Lennon’s 50th birthday, will benefit charities including Ono’s Greening of the World Foundation and the Lennon Scholarship fund.
