SDSU Women Sign Volleyball Recruits

San Diego State’s women’s volleyball team has signed four recruits to national letters of intent, Coach Rudy Suwara announced Sunday.

The four are: Stephanie Riley, a 5-foot-11 middle blocker from Patrick Henry High; Graciela Santana, a 5-11 outside hitter with a strong jump serve, from El Paso who has played for Texas Tech and last year for Grossmont College; Pam Hope, a 5-9 setter from Phoenix Ariz. where she was a two-time all-state player for Northwest Community Christian High; and Jennifer Wrightson, a 6-1 middle blocker from Notre Dame Academy in Los Angeles where she led NDA to an undefeated season in 1989 and was chosen the team’s most valuable player.

BASEBALL

Mike Goodcase tripled in a run in the sixth inning then scored himself on a single from Bill Bardens as UC Irvine took a 4-3 victory over host San Diego State.

SDSU Shortstop Brian Grebeck went four for four with two doubles as the Aztecs fell to 10-6 and Irvine improved to 10-7.

USIU scored two runs off a Mark Cisneros home run in the eighth to take a one-run lead over visiting Cal State Long Beach, but allowed the 13th ranked 49ers to cross the plate four times in the ninth and score a 6-3 victory.

The 49ers (15-6) have won eight of nine. USIU fell to 5-12-1.
