HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Home Runs Lift St. Francis to Win

Home runs by Albert Ojeda and Matt Jones powered St. Francis High to a 7-3 nonleague baseball win at South Pasadena on Monday.

St. Francis (2-0) took the lead for good on Ojeda’s two-run shot in the fourth inning that gave the Knights a 3-1 lead. Jones’ solo shot in the seventh provided an insurance run.

Starter Mitch Bowen (1-0), who struck out 11 and walked two in going the distance, joined the hit parade with three hits and a run batted in.

In other baseball games:

Antelope Valley 2, Crescenta Valley 1--Jack Cox hit a solo home run in the second and Kevin Branch pitched five scoreless innings as the Antelopes (1-1) posted a consolation-round victory in the Glendora tournament.

Newbury Park 6, El Toro 3--Newbury Park scored six times with two out in the sixth to erase a 3-0 deficit in a consolation-round game of the Loara tournament.

The Panthers (2-1-1) parlayed three consecutive El Toro errors and five hits into their biggest inning of the season.

SOFTBALL

Poly 14, Eagle Rock 2--Catcher Kristie Faehnle hit her second home run of the season in a nonleague game at Poly.

Faehnle’s two-run shot in the third highlighted a four-run rally and gave the Parrots an 8-0 lead.

Chaminade 11, Kennedy 0--Chaminade scored five runs in the third inning of a game at Granada Hills Recreation Center.

Flintridge Sacred Heart 2, Village Christian 1--Flintridge Sacred Heart scored the winning run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.

Monroe 6, Taft 4--Losing pitcher Julie Kawamoto surrendered four walks and five runs in the first inning to visiting Monroe but allowed only one run in the next five innings.

St. Bonaventure 3, Louisville 0--St. Bonaventure held the Royals to three hits in the nonleague game at home.

Calabasas 14, St. Genevieve 1--Calabasas drew 14 walks and had 11 hits in the nonleague game at home. Kristi Thomsen was two for three with a double and triple.

TENNIS

Chatsworth 7, Bell 0--Chatsworth ran its record to 2-0 and did not allow visiting Bell to win a set in the nonleague match.

VOLLEYBALL

Campbell Hall d. Montclair Prep, 15-2, 15-5, 13-15, 15-6--Will Fruehling had 14 kills and three jump-serve aces for Campbell Hall (2-0) in a nonleague match against visiting Montclair Prep. Phil Bruno led Campbell Hall with eight solo blocks.
