CSUN Sweeps Softball Doubleheader

After battling Division I opponents for the past month, Cal State Northridge made its 1990 debut against Division II competition Wednesday at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and defeated the Mustangs, 2-1 and 2-1, as the teams opened their California Collegiate Athletic Assn. softball schedules.

In the first game, Lisa Erickson, who reached base on an infield single, scored the winning run from second base on a ninth-inning throwing error. Outfielder Leilani Artis had driven in Jeanne Mixon in the second to tie the score, 1-1.

Debbie Dickmann went the distance and struck out four to improve her record to 4-4.

The Mustangs (7-7) committed seven errors in the nightcap. Northridge took a 2-0 advantage in the second after Mixon scored on Denise Swank’s single and Anna Getherall, who had reached base on a single, came home on an error.
