NBA ROUNDUP : 76ers Romp Past Knicks on the Court, in Standings

Charles Barkley had 15 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, and Hersey Hawkins scored 26 points as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the New York Knicks, 110-93, Wednesday night at Philadelphia to wrest the Atlantic Division lead from the Knicks.

Philadelphia edged a half-game ahead of the Knicks, who lost for the sixth time in their past 10 games. The victory was Philadelphia’s third in four games against New York this season.

Johnny Newman scored 26 points, Gerald Wilkins added 23 and Patrick Ewing had 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Knicks.

Portland 130, Boston 117--Clyde Drexler had 39 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists as the Trail Blazers handed the Celtics their second consecutive home loss.

Kevin Duckworth added 18 points and Jerome Kersey had 16 for Portland.

Larry Bird scored 22 points and Reggie Lewis added 20 for Boston.

Phoenix 113, Washington 111--Kevin Johnson rebounded his own missed shot and scored with 2.7 seconds left at Landover, Md., to give the Suns their third consecutive victory.

Tom Chambers scored 44 points, 32 in the second half, and Johnson scored 25 points and had 14 assists.

Bernard King scored 32 points for the Bullets and Jeff Malone added 25.

Denver 86, Minnesota 73--Danny Schayes scored 24 points and the Nuggets tied a franchise record for fewest points allowed at Minneapolis.

Pooh Richardson had 19 points and Tony Campbell scored 18 for Minnesota.

Miami 122, Orlando 105--Scott Haffner made five baskets in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to defuse a rally by the Magic at Miami.

Rony Seikaly had 31 points and 21 rebounds for Miami. Reggie Theus scored 31 for Orlando.
