NBA ROUNDUP : Jazz Ends Bulls’ Win Streak at 9

Karl Malone scored 27 points as the Utah Jazz beat Chicago, 98-94, ending the Bulls’ nine-game winning streak Thursday night at Chicago.

The loss was the Bulls’ third at home in 26 games. It was the Jazz’ ninth victory in 10 games and improved its road record to 15-14.

Michael Jordan scored 43 points for the Bulls and Scottie Pippen added 24.

The Bulls battled from 19 points down to within 96-94 with three seconds left on two free throws by Jordan, but Malone made two foul shots with two seconds left.

Thurl Bailey added 22 points for Utah.

Houston 111, Seattle 97--Akeem Olajuwon scored 16 of his 30 points in the third quarter at Houston to lead the Rockets to their fifth consecutive victory.

The Rockets still trail the SuperSonics by 1 1/2 games in the fight for the final playoff berth in the Western Conference.

Olajuwon, who hit 14 of 19 shots and added eight rebounds, ended his third-quarter scoring spurt with a short jump shot that gave the Rockets a 93-84 lead going into the final quarter. Houston pulled away with a 10-2 surge to take a 105-92 lead with 4:49 left.

Michael Cage scored 20 points for the SuperSonics and Dana Barros had 19. Buck Johnson added 20 points for the Rockets.

Golden State 145, Cleveland 105--Mitch Richmond scored 25 points to lead the Warriors at Oakland.

Cleveland lost its sixth consecutive game, all on this trip, and finish the long trek Sunday at Milwaukee.

Cleveland shot 43% in the first half and fell behind, 71-50, at intermission. Tim Hardaway had 13 assists in the first half in the Warriors’ biggest win by point margin this season.

The Warriors started the second half with a 14-2 run to build the lead to 85-52.

John Williams scored 26 points for Cleveland.

Sacramento 111, Charlotte 102--Wayman Tisdale scored 33 points, including 20 in the third quarter, as the Kings handed the Hornets their 11th consecutive road defeat at Sacramento.

Rex Champan tied his season high of 38 points for Charlotte, which has lost 27 of 28 road games.

Tisdale had 14 of the Kings’ points during a 20-7, six-minute run that gave Sacramento the lead for good, 72-62, with 4:25 left in the third quarter.
