The Black Student Assn. of Loyola Marymount will sponsor a celebrity basketball game at 2 p.m. Sunday in Gersten Pavilion. The game will be dedicated to Hank Gathers, who was scheduled to be an announcer for the game and was a member of the association. Those expected to play in the game include actor Richard Roundtree, Rams running back Greg Bell and Stoney Jackson from the cast of “227.”

Loyola Marymount volleyball Coach Mike Normand announced the signing of four players for the women’s team this week. The signees are Teri Runge, a 5-foot-11 middle blocker from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, who was all-state in volleyball and basketball, 5-11 middle blocker Lisa Wenker from El Camino College, 5-9 outside hitter Deanna Doolittle from Woodbridge High in Irvine and 5-9 outside hitter Shawna Mickartz from Irvine High. Doolittle and Mickartz also play together on the Orange County Volleyball Club.

John Shearer of Manhattan Beach, a three-time men’s senior world champion, easily won the over-30 division of the first Manhattan Beach Bodyboarding Championships last weekend. Over 120 competitors braved rain, wind and four- to six-foot waves at the city pier.
