Coverage of Gathers’ Death Brings Strong Reaction From Readers
I’m writing this letter to let you and your staff know how disappointed I am that you have stooped so low as you did yesterday (March 5). I am referring to your picture of Hank Gathers on the front page and on the first page of the sports section.
The poor young man was having the last few minutes of his life and you disregarded his dignity by publishing those pictures just to make a few bucks and sell some papers. It was the most disgusting display I have ever seen in the pictures of the Los Angeles Times. Your staff should be ashamed.
