Autopsy Results Due Wednesday
Results of an autopsy on Loyola Marymount basketball star Hank Gathers, who died March 4 after collapsing on the court during a West Coast Conference tournament game, won’t be announced before Wednesday.
Bob Dambacher, a spokesman for the Los Angeles coroner’s office, told the Associated Press today that toxicological and tissue examination reports have not been completed.
Gathers, who was 23, collapsed during another game last Dec. 9. A battery of medical tests in December resulted in a diagnosis that he had an irregular heartbeat condition. He was given a prescribed medication, Inderal, before he returned to playing basketball.
Dambacher said he did not know if the autopsy will indicate whether Gathers took the medication in the days or hours immediately before his death.
