Scott Coleman pitched two innings of hitless relief to break the San Diego Section record for consecutive hitless innings, but it wasn’t enough as Point Loma scored three runs in the first and held on for a 3-1 victory in the Madison Warhawk Tournament.

Coleman stretched his hitless string to 16 innings, breaking the record of 15 set by El Capitan’s Jeff Byrd in 1974.

Tobin Gault had a two-run single and Bob Simoneau added an RBI double for the Pointers.

In other Hilltop-Moose tournament games:

El Capitan 3, Hilltop 2--David Rios (2-0) struck out seven, walked four and allowed five hits for visiting El Capitan (3-1) while Jose Silva (1-1) walked five, struck out six and gave up two hits for Hilltop (2-2).

USDHS 21, Escondido 6--David Sanchez hit a grand slam in the first inning and followed up with a two-run homer in the second to give USDHS a 7-2 lead. Sanchez went four for five with seven RBIs for USDHS (3-1). Tom Afenir hit a two-run homer in the first for Escondido (1-3).

Granite Hills 4, Mission Bay 3--Ryan O’Coyne struck out 15 and was two for three with three RBIs for host Granite Hills (3-1). O’Coyne’s double in the fifth scored two and put Granite Hills ahead to stay. Cliff Rinder was three for three for Granite Hills. Mission Bay is 1-3.

In other Madison Warhawk tournament games:

Patrick Henry 3, Castle Park 2--Eric Seffer homered to lead off the bottom of the first, and Scott Arlin tripled and scored in the sixth for Patrick Henry (4-3).

Kearny 15, Mar Vista 4--Kearny scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to the victory at Mar Vista. Jason Redondo was two for two with three RBIs for Kearny (4-3).

Mira Mesa 4, Valhalla 0--Mira Mesa held the Norsemen to one hit. Drew Arnold was three for three with two RBIs, and Brendon Hause was three for four for Mira Mesa (7-0).

Monte Vista 10, Serra 0--Pitcher Neal Svalstad (2-0) struck out 10 and had a no-hitter going until one out in the sixth. Curt Howard had five RBIs for Monte Vista (6-1). Serra dropped to 4-3.

Carlsbad 4, Mt. Miguel 1--Reagan Harris had a RBI double and Bill Cradock an RBI triple to lead Carlsbad (3-4).

GMC Tournament

San Diego 22, Francis Parker 3--San Diego tied the section record with 15 runs in the fourth inning. Castle Park set the record against Mt. Miguel last season. Ernesto Verdugo and Claudio Moreno had two-run homers and Josh Stepner added a three-run home run for San Diego (2-2).

Santana 12, Southwest 8--Scott Hopgood went two for four with four RBIs for Santana (4-0). Santana scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break an 8-8 tie.

Montgomery 3, CETYS 2--Luis Arroyo struck out seven for Montgomery (5-1). CETYS remained winless (0-4).

Reyman-Pirate Tournament

Oceanside 3, Fallbrook 2--Catcher Jose Avila’s leadoff home run in the eighth inning provided Oceanside with the winning run. Avila finished with two solo homers for the Pirates (2-1-1).

Torrey Pines 10, Laguna Beach 0--Greg Wilber and Mike Steffieri had back-to-back two-run doubles in the third. In that inning, Torrey Pines (3-1) stole five bases, had five hits and scored seven runs.

El Camino 9, Rancho Buena Vista 7--Pitcher John Patteron doubled in two runs in the third inning as El Camino started its comeback after being down, 6-2, after the first. Martin Arsipe had two hits and two RBIs and Brian Clark picked up two hits and scored twice. El Camino is 2-2. RBV dropped to 1-2-1.

Crawford tournament

Crawford 10, University City 4--Crawford turned five double plays and was led by Sal Vidrios and Todd Davis, who were two for four with two RBIs. UC’s Tim Napper was two for four. Crawford is 3-0; UC is 1-2.

West Hills 16, Clairemont 12--Jesus Jauregui was four for five with two RBIs for Clairemont (1-3).

Nonleague

Julian 4, Borrego Springs 0--Travis Denmark (3-0) recorded 13 strikeouts in seven innings and went two for three with two RBIs and scored two runs. Julian improved to 4-0.
