COLLEGE ROUNDUP : No. 1 Titans, No. 5 Long Beach Split Softball Doubleheader
Top-ranked Cal State Fullerton split a Big West Conference softball doubleheader with No. 5 Cal State Long Beach at Fullerton Wednesday.
In the first game, Charlotte Wiley scored the winning run on Kim Kostyk’s error in the 10th inning to give Fullerton (17-8, 4-3 in conference) a 2-1 triumph. Wiley singled and stole second and third to set up the winning run.
Long Beach (17-9, 4-2) won the second game, 1-0, when Kostyk singled home Sandra Ross.
In nonconference baseball:
Pepperdine 3, UC Irvine 0--Jeff Pearce hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning to lead host Pepperdine (13-11). Ed Luna had two hits for UC Irvine (16-9).
UC Riverside 5, Cal State Fullerton 4--Cal State Fullerton (9-8) led, 4-0, after seven innings but then UC Riverside (20-8) rallied. Riverside trailed, 4-3, in the bottom of the ninth when Pete Weber hit a two-run double.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
UC Irvine 5, North Carolina 4--Host UC Irvine (10-5) was led by Trevor Kronemann, who defeated Don Johnson, 7-6, 6-1.
