COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Goodcase Gets UC Irvine Past Northridge

Mike Goodcase’s three hits and five runs batted in helped lead UC Irvine to an 11-2 victory over Cal State Northridge in a nonconference baseball game at Irvine Friday.

Goodcase hit his second inside-the-park home run of the season in the second inning to cap a five-run inning and give the Anteaters a 6-1 lead.

Osmar DeChavez had four hits, one RBI and two runs scored and Billy Bardens had three hits, one RBI and two runs scored for Irvine (18-9). Chris Huber (3-0) struck out eight and walked one in four innings for the victory.

Craig Clayton had three hits and Scott Sharts hit a home run for Northridge (12-12).

In other nonconference baseball:

Cal State Fullerton 11, U.S. International 2--Host Cal State Fullerton (10-9) was led by Mate Borgogno, who had three hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the Titans’ five-run fifth inning.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

UC Irvine 7, Utah 2--Trevor Kronemann defeated Johan Hogstedt, 6-4, 6-2, and ninth-ranked Irvine (11-5) swept in doubles at home.

LaVerne 5, Southern California College 4--Tom Huynh defeated Dave Wyckoff, 6-0, 6-1, to lead host LaVerne. Jim Mansfield defeated Jirar Kelekian, 6-0, 6-2. SCC is 4-9.
