COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Master’s Scores 32 Runs, Sweeps Western Baptist

The Master’s College knocked out 25 hits in 11-3 and 21-12 victories over visiting Western Baptist in a nonconference baseball doubleheader Saturday.

In the opener, Jeff Cole (1-2) went the distance, aided by home runs from Jeff Preston and Mark MacArthur.

In the second game, Master’s received strong efforts from Russ Henzie (three for six, three runs batted in), Rick Brady (home run, two for three), MacArthur (two for four, two RBIs) and Gary Graley (two for three, two RBIs). Mike Weinstein (2-1) picked up the win.

In other baseball games:

Mission 15, Barstow 1--Four pitchers combined on a three-hitter and Robert Chavez went two for two with a double and triple and three RBIs to lead Mission (13-6-1, 5-1) in a Southern California Athletic Conference game at Valley College.

Nino Romo (4-2) pitched five no-hit innings, then received help from Tom Daniels, Tom Ball and Nick Lymberopoulos in relief. For Mission, Mike Rogers had a double and three RBIs and Eric Hinojosa went three for four with four runs scored.

Bakersfield 16, Pierce 3--Bakersfield’s Joe Norris (3-1) scattered five hits in eight innings in a Western State Conference game at Pierce. Jim Doushgounian had two hits for Pierce (9-11, 2-5).

Cuesta 10, Canyons 5--Catcher Mike Gillem had three hits, including a two-run home run in the seventh, as Cuesta won a WSC game at home.

Canyon reliever Alan Sedaca (0-1) yielded three runs in the sixth as Cuesta (6-1 in conference) took an 8-5 lead. Jon Beauchemin had two hits, including a run-scoring double for Canyons (13-7, 5-2).

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 3-9, Cal Baptist 0-0--Kim White was five for eight with four triples and eight RBIs while extending her hitting streak to 10 games as Cal Lutheran (11-5-2, 4-0) swept an NAIA District 3 doubleheader at home.
