THE SIDELINES : Scott Pruett’s Condition Better
Scott Pruett, the co-rookie of the year in the 1989 Indianapolis 500, was upgraded to good condition after surgery to repair multiple fractures to his back.
Pruett underwent 4 1/2 hours of surgery at Methodist Hospital on Sunday to repair two broken lumbar vertebrae, said hospital spokesman David Richards.
Pruett, 29, of Roseville, Calif., considered one of the rising stars on the Indy car circuit, suffered the injuries last Friday when he crashed into a concrete barrier during testing in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The driver underwent surgery Saturday to repair multiple fractures of both his legs. He had been listed in fair condition.
