Forget the first strike. Don’t worry about the second. In Sylmar High’s Valley Pac-8 Conference baseball game against Birmingham on Monday, staring down the barrel of an 0-and-2 count didn’t mean much.

Behind a pair of 0-and-2 hits by Pat Garcia and James Encinas, Sylmar scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to break up a tie game en route to an 8-5 win at Sylmar.

After Birmingham scored four runs in the top of the fifth to forge a 4-4 tie, Garcia and Encinas each lined two-run singles off Jason Mansfield (1-2).
