Removal of 7 Oak Trees at Mountain Site Barred

A Superior Court judge Tuesday barred a developer from destroying or removing seven oak trees on a controversial construction site in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The temporary restraining order was sought by members of the Topanga Assn. for Scenic Community and the Woodland Hills Homeowners Assn., who said they feared the developer was planning to remove the trees without a permit. Attorney Rosemary Woodlock, representing the groups, told Judge John Zebrowski the trees have been labeled with aluminum removal tags.
An attorney for Grupe Developers Inc., Joshua Rosen, denied that the developers planned to remove the trees and said they had been tagged by accident. The firm has already received a permit to remove 57 other oaks to make way for an 83-house tract, Rosen said.
