Runs in Short Supply Against Palmdale Duo

Palmdale High’s starting rotation of Chris Tampoya and Jim Carson is a combined 5-0 with 34 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings.

Tampoya, a 5-foot-9 junior left-hander, is 3-0 with 20 strikeouts and a 1.94 earned-run average in 18 innings.

Carson, a 6-1 senior right-hander, is 2-0 with 14 strikeouts and a 1.54 ERA in 13 2/3 innings, 12 of them scoreless.

Pitching: Hart’s Andrew Lorraine, a senior left-hander, is 2-0 with 35 strikeouts and an 0.67 ERA in 21 innings. . . . After three games, El Camino Real’s righty-lefty combination of Pat Treend (2-0, one save) and Ryan McGuire (1-0) has not allowed an earned run in 21 innings. In that span, the pair has allowed 10 hits, struck out 27 and allowed four unearned runs. In 15 2/3 innings, Treend has struck out 20, walked three and allowed eight hits.

Village Christian junior Matt Smay (2-0) already has pitched a no-hitter and one-hitter. In 18 2/3 innings, he has walked three and struck out 27.

Offense: Lance Martin and Mike McNellis of Thousand Oaks have combined to knock in 18 runs in the team’s first four games. Martin has 10 runs batted in and is batting .467 (7 for 15), and McNellis is batting .273 (3 for 11).

In eight at-bats last week, Chatsworth center fielder Scott Carpenter reached base seven times. . . . In his past three games, Reseda outfielder Joe Tushnet has nine hits. He is 15 for 26 this season. . . . Agoura outfielder Jeremy Keehn, a senior who transferred from Crespi and sat out last year, has three hits this season, but two are home runs. In 10 at-bats, he has six RBIs.

Through seven games, Village Christian is batting .376, knocking out 91 hits in 242 at-bats. Seven regulars have at least 10 hits for the Crusaders, with junior Mark Vail leading the team with 13 hits in 27 at-bats (.481).

Streaks: Harvard snapped a six-game losing streak Saturday, sweeping a nonleague doubleheader from Brentwood. . . . Chaminade shortstop Aaron Weiss had multiple-hit games in six consecutive games--all Eagle victories. The streak ended Monday when Chaminade tied Mary Star, 5-5.
