COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Colby Helps Rancho Santiago Pound Orange Coast, 15-4

Conrad Colby had four hits, scored two runs and drove in two runs to lead Rancho Santiago College to a 15-4 victory over Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Rancho Santiago.

Rob Reimers had three hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs, and Steve Grack had three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs, for Rancho Santiago (17-5, 7-3). The Dons had 17 hits.

Matt Lackie (6-2) allowed 11 hits but went the distance for the victory. John Douris took the loss for OCC (9-13, 2-7).

Cypress 5, Golden West 3--Doug McConathy had five singles and an RBI for visiting Cypress (13-11, 2-7). Terry Tewell had three hits and two RBIs and Tom Puppe had two hits for Cypress. Brian Mena had two hits and Gary Christopherson had a two-run single in the sixth for Golden West (15-5, 6-4), which left 16 runners on base.

Riverside 14, Fullerton 1--Ben Blomdahl (8-1) allowed six hits, struck out eight and gave up one unearned run for visiting Riverside (18-6, 7-3). Tom Kelly (5-1) took the loss for Fullerton (16-4, 7-2). Riverside scored nine runs and sent 14 batters to the plate in the third inning.

In a nonconference baseball game:

Saddleback 14, Washington Bellevue 2--Buster Nietzke and Neil Carter each had three hits for host Saddleback (8-10). Ralph Grajeda hit a home run and Corey Guliano (3-3) pitched the first six innings for the victory.

In Orange Empire Conference tennis:

Saddleback 8, Riverside 1--Host Saddleback swept in doubles. Carl Hands and Stan Sanders won, 6-1, 6-3, Arlen Sternberg and Scott Hansen won, 6-1, 6-4, and Eimei Ishida and Scott Clark won, 6-2, 6-3, for Saddleback (13-0, 6-0).

Orange Coast 9, Fullerton 0--The No. 2 doubles team of Chris Flood and Robert Van Duyne won, 6-0, 6-0, for host Orange Coast (10-1, 6-1).

Cypress 9, Golden West 0--John Swaino won, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and Bob Carlton won, 7-6, 6-0, for host Cypress (7-5, 4-2).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 8, Riverside 1--Noelle Schmidt defeated Lisa Goolsby, 6-0, 6-1, to lead Saddleback (5-1 in the conference) at Riverside.
