A forklift truck swerved into oncoming traffic on California 118 Wednesday and collided head-on with a car driven by a woman who sustained major injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.

Patricia Martinez, 20, of Somis, was taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, where she was listed in stable but guarded condition Wednesday afternoon.

Max Sibayan, 38, of Santa Barbara was driving east at 55 m.p.h. at 6:35 a.m. when he encountered traffic that had stopped, Officer Jim Utter said. He tried to stop before hitting the cars but could not, Utter said.
