St. Louis Defeats DePaul, Advances to NIT Semifinals

Jeff Luechtefeld matched his career high of 15 points and St. Louis overcame poor shooting in the second half to beat DePaul, 54-47, Thursday night to advance to the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament.

The Billikens will play the winner of tonight’s Hawaii-New Mexico game in the NIT semifinals on Monday night at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The championship game is Wednesday.

St. Louis (20-11) made just four of 14 field goals in the second half but never trailed in the game as the Blue Demons also had problems from the field. DePaul made just 27% of its shots in the second half, and 30% for the game.

St. Louis’ Anthony Bonner hit only of 17 shots and finished with 10 points. Bonner, however, grabbed 15 rebounds. Stephen Howard led DePaul (20-15) with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
